Speech Pathologist – WA - 5174

Salary: $75,000 - $107,500 DOE

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Speech Pathologist to grow and progress in a paediatric therapy practice in Pilbara in Western Australia. Our client is a growing family-centred practice providing paediatric theraphy services. They are committed to providing innovative, multidisciplinary, evidence-based therapy approaches. Their relationship-based approach aims to create connections to support the whole child and their family, faced with disability and/or communication challenges.

Role and Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Assesses and diagnoses children presenting with communication and/or feeding disorders.
  • Plans and provides speech pathology services to clients through individual therapy, group therapy, telehealth, home programs & school programs for children.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of therapy programs and services.
  • Identify and document client goals, evaluate progress and plan re-evaluation.
  • Consults with family, school and other relevant stakeholders regarding assessment, diagnosis and management.
  • Provides appropriate programming and supervision to allied health assistants as required.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment programs.
  • Develops and maintains resources for client management (e.g. programs).
  • Initiates and participates in quality improvement in consultation with line manager to evaluate service delivery and meet customer needs.
  • Participates in ongoing evaluation of clinical practice.

Administration

  • Maintains own calendar and client database.
  • Maintains client information in accordance with organisational, professional and the National Disability Insurance Scheme requirements.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.

Education/Training

  • Develops, prepares and presents training for staff in relation to speech pathology interventions.
  • Develops resources and programs for the use of other staff in areas of expertise.
  • Assists with supervision and development of students and colleagues.
  • Engages in continued professional development/education and ensures continued eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Participates in performance planning and performance reviews.

Other

  • Performs duties in accordance with organisational Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs duties in line with Speech Pathology Australia’s (SPA) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s Codes of Ethics.
  • Performs duties in line with the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (NDIS Act) and Disability Services Act (1993).
  • Performs duties in accordance with relevant Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Opportunity Legislation.
  • Conducts duties in a manner that is ethical and promotes a positive image of Connect Paediatric Therapy Services.
  • Delivers outreach services as required.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Skills and Experience

Essential Position Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and eligible for full membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
  • Ability to undertake assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders in children.
  • Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team, and as an individual within a team.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to family centred practice.

Desirable Position Criteria

  • Experience in the provision of speech pathology services to people living with disability.
  • Ability to work with clients from various cultural backgrounds.

Appointment prerequisites

  • Provision of the minimum proof of identity requirements – 100 points.
  • Evidence of eligibility for or current full membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current C or C-A Class driver’s license.

Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 – $107,500 DOE (this is 20-30% above award rates)
  • Relocation assistance (claimable through Rural Health West)
  • A retention bonus of $3,000 after 2 years continuous service.
  • Loyalty Leave – of one weeks additional leave after 3 years continuous service
  • Incentive bonus scheme – $300 per quarter if staff reach 100% of their billable target (after 6 months’ probation)

  • Structured clinical supervision – regular line management supervision, regular clinical supervision, peer supervision, multi/trans-disciplinary training workshops every 6 weeks, plus weekly whole team meetings.

  • Resources: use of work laptop, work mobile phone (during clinic hours) and vehicle (to attend appointments)

  • Further to this there is a a labour agreement with the government which will allow us to apply for 494 visas – the practice gets priority with applications and age concessions up to 55 years of age.
  • Full-time staff work 8-hour days with a half an hour lunch break. The clinic is open 8-5.30 and the daily hours are usually set around client needs.
